Application Scientist – Analytical Imaging

Location: Columbia, MD

Job Summary:
The Application Scientist will be responsible for solving non-routine customer measurement problems and will provide advanced technical input to the sales process when required. They will develop and document Malvern’s application knowledge and expertise in the area of analytical imaging.

Major Responsibilities:

To identify and understand application areas for Malvern’s analytical imaging systems.

To perform feasibility studies and contract analytical work as a part of the sales process and to provide sales support by visiting sales outlets and customers, both in the US and overseas as required and to diligently document and circulate reports on such visits.

To provide feedback on those applications into the Analytical Imaging NPI program of customers’ needs and requirements that result from the various customer interactions and encountered problems.

Generate product support material (application notes, technical notes, Brainsharks, Web conferences, articles, FAQ’s and material for use on the Web Site) to improve the communication to the market and the wider Malvern organization in support of analytical imaging products business objectives.

To prepare and give lectures, publish scientific papers and present seminars at an advanced level to our subsidiaries, agents, distributors, direct sales team and the end-users.

Liaison with 3rd party suppliers in order to resolve customer applications to support sales success.

To help with the alpha and beta testing of hardware and software.

To develop and where required provide specialist training, advice and guidance to customers and sales organization on product characterization relating to the best use of Malvern’s analytical imaging products.

To assist the solving of technical problems or issues with our customers and products.

To work closely with the relevant product manager and territory sales specialist to ensure they are aware of latest applications and product/software capabilities.

To participate in collaborative projects within the organization and with outside collaborators for the advancement of the product line.

To be a content provider to the relevant sections of the web site.

Requirements:

Doctorate degree in physical or chemical science and/or demonstratable practical experience in the field of microscopy and image analysis. Preferred candidates will have experience with commercially available image analysis or data processing software such as Matlab or ENVI. Knowledge of Pharmaceutical, Biotechnology and/or any form of spectroscopy and chemical imaging applications of the image analysis market - especially NIR or Raman technology.
