| The High Pressure Cell (HPC) working in conjunction with the Bohlin CVO, C-VOR or Gemini Rheometers and circulating fluid temperature controller is designed to provide rheological data for fluids at pressures up to 40 Bars. The HPC features a concentric cylinder measuring system located by precision bearings.
The inner rotating cylinder is coupled to the main spindle by a magnetic coupling, which transmits the torque through the pressure vessel. Fluid temperature in the HPC is regulated by the circulating fluid temperature controller and the Bohlin rheometer system software, enabling the user to make measurements from -30ºC to 150ºC. Other temperature ranges are also possible.
The HPC is designed to expand the range of the Bohlin CVO or Gemini to enable the user to make rheological measurements under conditions, which simulate what happens in fluid processing. For example, the HPC is ideal for studying the behavior of aqueous systems at temperatures in excess of 100ºC. This type of measurement is not possible in open systems on conventional rheometers.
Industrial Applications
The high pressure cell can be used in several industries, including petrochemicals and foods.

The above graphs show viscosity shear rate profiles for three starch solutions at 70ºC, (figure 1) and 130ºC (figure 2). Interestingly, the viscosity order is reversed when the temperature is changed. Interpretation of the viscosity results can be made in terms of the molecular weight and confirmation of the starch molecules in solution.
