High Pressure / High Temperature Cell

 

The HPC 300 high pressure and high temperature accessory is compatible with the complete range of Bohlin CVO, C-VOR and Gemini Rheometers and is designed to extend the testing range to high pressure and high temperature. The HPC 300 enables determination of the rheological properties of materials under condtion of temperature and pressure that cannot be achieved with open systems on a conventional rheometer.

The HPC 300 comprises a cup and bob assembly in a completely closed environment. All wetted parts are made from Hastelloy C to allow use of the HPC 300 with the widest range oa samples. The bob is supported on low friction jewel bearings and is driven by the rheometer through a magnetic coupling. Bobs are available in Titanium when minimal inertia of the measuring system is importanet or Hastelloy C for testing chemically aggressive materials.

An integrated electrical heater enables precise temperature control from ambient to 300°C and specially developed high pressure seals are used in the test cell to enable the unit to operate at pressures up to 300 bar. Temperature is controlled through the standard Bohlin software package.

The system includes an Inlet and Outlet port for addition and removal of the sample without the need to disassemble the cell. The HPC 300 could therefore be used to provide an on-line test of the rheological properties of a material in a sealed environment. Two additional user ports are also included for external pressurisation of the cell or attaching pressure gauges, safety valves etc. The cell may be pressurised from either an external pressure source or from the vapour pressure generated by the sample under test.

The HPC 300 is suitable for a range of fluid applications and may be used to measure flow properties in controlled stress or constant rate conditions as well as determing structural information using low frequency oscillatory tests.

Applications of the HPC 300 include measurement of drilling muds and slurries at pressures and temperatures experienced in oil recovery, measurement of aqueous based systems such as foodstuffs or personal care products at temperatures above 100°C.
