Die Cutter

Die cutters can be used to prevent gravitational extension and therefore thinning of the extrudate during die swell measurement. The die cutter periodically cuts the extrudate by striking a blade across the face of the die.

The cut is made automatically once the end of the strand reaches a sensor placed below the die swell measurement unit. The Rosand die cutter unit operates on just one of the dies, usually on the left hand bore.

The blade assembly is designed for easy removal for access to the die. Special dies are required with a low exit face. Typically, with a 1mm die, a shear rate range of less than 1 1/s to more than 1000 1/s can be covered by the cutters depending on the material and temperature.
