The Malvern site search is powered by a dedicated Google search engine and so its functionality should be familiar to most people.
However, here are some tips to help you get the most out of your searches:
Google only returns pages that includes all of your search terms – there is no need to include “and” between each term.
The order in which the terms are typed will affect the search results.
Google will ignore common words such as “where”, “how” and “as”.
If a common word is essential to getting the results you want, you can include it by adding a “+” sign in front of it (be sure to add a space before the + sign).
A phrase search is useful for refining a search - to get an exact match for your search, add quotes around your search phrase (e.g. “laser diffraction”). Note that common words will be included for a phrase search.
Google searches are not case sensitive – “Laser diffraction” and “laser diffraction will give the same results.
Google does not use “stemming” or wildcard searches – “laser*” will not yield “lasers”
