The Viscotek TDAmax is a complete stand-alone, research grade, temperature controlled, multi-detector GPC/SEC system suitable for the molecular weight and molecular size determination of proteins, natural and synthetic polymers, copolymers and other macromolecules.

Overview

The TDAmax consists of three components – the GPCmax integrated solvent and sample delivery module, the TDA 305 Triple Detector Array, and the OmniSEC software. The TDA 305 incorporates RI and, Light Scattering detectors, as well as a viscometer and optional UV detector. Both the integrated detectors and the chromatography columns are fully temperature controlled up to 80°C in an oven to ensure optimum detector stability. In addition, the detectors are connected in series to ensure maximum sensitivity.

  • Absolute molecular weight of small polymers, protein stability and protein aggregation using Right angle light scattering (RALS)
  • Direct output of absolute molecular weight of polymers without extrapolation using Low angle light scattering (LALS)
  • Protein and polymer structure (including branching) information using intrinsic viscosity detector
  • Molecular size in terms of hydrodynamic diameter (Rh) and the radius of gyration (Rg)
  • Copolymer composition using photo-diode array UV detector
  • Autosampler incorporated to increase throughput and improve repeatability
  • Advanced GPC/SEC software capable of going from data to results in just two clicks
  • 3D absorption plot for chemical identification of each component
  • 21 CFR part 11 compliant
  • Full suite of calibration and GPC/SEC calculation types

How it works

The GPCmax contains an integrated pump, autosampler and degasser. Mobile phase, stored in solvent bottles placed on top of the instrument, enters the dual piston pump after passing through the eluent sensor. This will automatically stop the flow if the solvent is exhausted mid-run. An inline degasser then removes dissolved gases from the mobile phase, which improves the baseline on any of the detectors that may be connected. The pump is compatible with any solvent, even acidic buffers.

The autosampler inside the GPCmax can hold up to 120 vials, which can either be heated, or cooled to prevent degradation of the samples over time. The Autosampler provides the system with variable, reliable, accurate and reproducible injection volumes, enabling comprehensive macromolecular characterizations to be made with confidence.

Mobile phase (and sample) enters the TDA and passes through the GPC/SEC chromatography columns. The columns are maintained at the same temperature as the detectors. After eluting from the column, the dissolved polymer molecules, now separated by size, pass through the UV detector (if present), followed by the light scattering and RI detectors. Finally, the mobile phase passes through the viscometer before going to waste.
