Peptides
Stability optimization of peptides for biotherapeutics.
Peptides are low molecular weight biopolymers containing at least 2 amino acids. There is a growing interest in the use of peptides as therapeutics, as they have several advantages over traditional small molecule drugs due to their specificity. This specificity, combined with their small size, gives peptides some advantages over antibody based biotherapeutics as well.
Peptides have, among other things, been used to treat cancer, metabolic disorders, allergies, and immunological disorders, and have also been used as anti-viral drugs and vaccines.
There is however, a number of research challenges still associated with the use of peptides as biotherapeutics, such as their susceptibility to protease digestion and their short systemic half-life in serum, both of which necessitate optimization of the formulation and the delivery route.
Malvern Instruments’ analytical techniques can help you:
- Optimize formulation stability.
- Evaluate different drug carriers’ complex composition.
