The incorporation of active pharmaceutical ingredients (API) into solid dosage forms requires careful considerations to achieve both the bioavailability and stability profiles desired. In this presentation, we discuss some examples of analyses performed using NIR chemical imaging to investigate the stability of amorphous and crystalline APIs in tablets. The presentation will described some preliminary tests that should be performed to assess the suitability of NIR imaging for the task and explore different ways to measure the API in the matrix.

A modified filament stretching extensional rheometer developed at MIT was sent to the International Space Station (ISS) aboard the Space Shuttle Discovery in 2007. In 2008, 45 samples consisting of a dilute solution (0.025 wt. %) of a narrow polydispersity high molecular weight polystyrene dissolved in oligomeric styrene oil have been tested in microgravity, 217 miles above our heads. In this talk, Dr. Johannes Soulages will give us an update on the effects of a preshear history on the transient extensional viscosity of a dilute polymer solution in a uniaxial stretching flow.
