Near infrared chemical imaging (NIR-CI) is an exciting new technology for the characterization of complex heterogeneous solid-state materials in the pharmaceutical, chemical, cosmetic, food and other industries. Examples of applications in the pharmaceutical industry will be used to illustrate the value of the technology for solving problems in formulation development, quality assurance and quality control as well as root cause analysis and in-process measurements in pharmaceutical manufacturing.
