Key role for Mastersizer in new emulsions and suspensions consultancy at Rading Scientific Services Ltd.

Release Date:2009-Jun-18
Number:pr165

Reading Scientific Services Ltd. (RSSL), the UK-based contract research organisation, has established a new Emulsions and Suspensions Consultancy to meet the growing demand for its services in a field that is of increasing industrial significance. One of the key parameters in analysing and understanding emulsions and suspensions is the measurement of  droplet and particle size, and RSSL has chosen the Malvern Instruments Mastersizer system for this task.

The new Consultancy is an extension of RSSL’s existing services. It offers facilities for the preparation of emulsions; droplet and particle size measurement; stability studies; flocculation and aggregation studies; investigation and optimisation of emulsification techniques and conditions; and investigation of the factors affecting emulsion and suspension stability.

Mr Paul Soper, Head of Physical Sciences at RSSL, commented: “Malvern Mastersizer systems have been used at RSSL for a number of years. The Mastersizer is ideal for the type of analysis that we now undertake. Results are generated rapidly and reliably, helping us to maintain a high quality service for our clients.”

RSSL has provided contract research, analysis and consultancy services since 1987 and has a client base throughout manufacturing industry. It is anticipated that the Emulsions and Suspensions Consultancy will be of greatest interest to the beverage, dairy, pharmaceutical, cosmetics and paint industries where emulsions play such an important role in manufacturing processes.

RSSL boasts 170 staff and operates from facilities which are amongst the most modern in Europe. The company offers a completely confidential service, with an emergency response facility 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, and is committed to accredited quality systems such as UKAS and GLP.
