On-line particle size analysis delivers continuous monitoring of the finish milling circuit, making the result of changes to operating parameters immediately obvious. This insight is especially valuable during periods of transient operation, start-up for example or, more commonly, changing from one specification to another. Reducing unproductive periods of transient operation increases throughput and reduces waste/re-work.
The trend below shows particle size data gathered during a change from one cement grade to a second finer grade. The point at which the final specification is met is clear, making it easy for the operator to switch to a new collection silo at the optimum time, minimizing waste.
It should also be noted that the traditional off-line Blaine measurement (input manually by the operator and shown in green), is insensitive to this type of change and is of little help in determining when the changeover period is complete.
