Sturtevant Inc: Developing an optimal milling solution for Trona

Sturtevant Inc a manufacturer of size reduction and separation equipment is using an on-line Insitec particle size analyzer to develop optimal milling solutions for a range of customer applications. A recent success is the design of a pin mill for Trona size reduction (sodium bicarbonate carbonate) for flue gas desulfurization at a power plant. By consistently maintaining particle size in the 10 – 20 micron range optimal for the sorption of SO3 the Sturtevant solution:

• Minimizes Trona consumption (treatment cost)
• Reduces waste disposal costs: when dosing levels are low the spent sorbent can be directed to the fly ash waste stream which is used in cement production
